What is a B-BBEE Certificate?

A B-BBEE (Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment) certificate is a key document in South Africa. It measures a business’s commitment to economic transformation and diversity. The certificate evaluates how well a company complies with the B-BBEE Act, which aims to correct economic inequalities and boost the participation of Black South Africans, including African, Coloured, and Indian people, as well as women, youth, and those with disabilities.

What is the B-BBEE Scorecard?

The B-BBEE Scorecard is used to assess and score a company’s B-BBEE compliance. It consists of five elements:

  1. Ownership (25 points): Measures the ownership stake of Black South Africans in the company.
  2. Management Control (15 points): Evaluates the representation of Black South Africans in senior management.
  3. Skills Development (20 points): Assesses investment in training and development for Black employees.
  4. Enterprise and Supplier Development (40 points): Looks at support for Black-owned businesses and suppliers.
  5. Socio-economic Development (5 points): Evaluates contributions to community projects like education and healthcare.

A company’s B-BBEE level, ranging from Level 1 (highest) to Level 8 (lowest), is determined by their total score out of 100 points.
